My Go-To Summer Makeup Routine

Most summer days you can find me without a stitch of makeup on. If I am wearing makeup, it's most likely this look. This really is my go-to look because it's so fresh, simple, and easy. It's literally giving me life.

If you watch my video, you will notice I use my bronzer as my transition shade on my eye. This is a great trick for blending out any eyeshadow, but I love pairing it with the L'Oreal shadow for a warm and glowy, blown out look.

This L'Oreal Infallible eyeshadow in Amber Rush is the perfect shadow for summer! Click here for more of my thoughts on this amazing shadow!

How To Get Rid Of Cold Sores Quickly

It's just the worst. Maybe it's picture day at school, maybe you have an important business meeting, or maybe you have a job interview... and you wake up with a cold sore. Yep, all those things have happened to me. I've been getting cold sores, also known as fever blisters, since I was in the 5th grade and while I realize I'm being slightly melodramatic, they are the WORST!

No, this is not a glamorous topic to blog about, but I really wish someone had shared this information with me a long time ago. I've tried just about every over-the-counter drug and home remedy out there and nothing worked for me... until a couple years ago. Oh what a glorious day. My sister-in-law told me she takes something called Lysine and hadn't gotten a fever blister in several years.

The next time I got that awful tingly feeling in my lip, I ran to the drugstore and picked up a bottle of Lysine (found in the Vitamin and Herbal Supplement aisle). I was shocked and so relieved by the results. Did it magically make my cold sore disappear? No. But it did drastically speed up the healing process. I am by no means a doctor nor do I know much about who should or shouldn't be taking Lysine. What I do know is Lysine is the only thing that has worked to heal my fever blisters quickly.

The recommended dosage is 1000 mg per day if you're taking the supplement over a long period of time. While that would probably prevent the recurrence of fever blisters, I don't have the discipline to take it everyday. As soon as I start feeling one coming up, I take three (yes, three) 1000 mg pills with each of my meals. While 9000 mg a day may seem a bit over the top, the research I found confirmed that it was completely safe in order to treat the herpes virus.

I also found this Lysine balm to treat on contact in addition to the supplement. While I haven't noticed much of a difference by applying this, it does help sooth the irritation, and you can apply it liberally as needed.

When I used to get cold sores, the total time it lasted was nearly two weeks, from the first tingly feeling to no signs of a scab. Two weeks ago, I got my first fever blister in two years, and it lasted only 5 days. On the 6th day, there was no sign of a scab or anything.

I would recommend checking with your doctor before consuming a large amount of Lysine, but this is the only thing that has worked for me. I hope it works for you, too!

2014 Met Gala Makeup | Favorite & Hate It

If you are unfamiliar with the Met Gala, it is the annual celebration of the Metropolitan Museum's fashion exhibit at the Costume Institute hosted by Vogue Magazine. It's been coined 'Fashion Prom' where celebrities get super glam and get the chance to wear something fun and edgy.

There were so many fabulous looks this year from stunning ball gowns and dapper tuxes to Old Hollywood class, and it was sooo hard to narrow down my favorites. Keep in mind, I chose my faves based strictly on their makeup. :)

Blake Lively - Favorite Overall Look

With Blake's gorgeous gown and retro waves, she didn't need to overdo it with her makeup. Her look is simple and sweet, playing up the eyes with voluminous lashes and a toned-down version of a red lip. She looked so stunning. And let's face it - her best accessory was undoubtedly her hunk-of-a-husband, Ryan Reynolds. I threw this pic in just because it's fun to look at. You're welcome.

Lupita Nyong'o - Favorite Eyes

I am no fashion expert, so I'm refraining from commenting on Lupita's choice of wardrobe, but I commend her for her bold choice. While her dress may not be my favorite, I am loving her makeup. It's springtime appropriate focusing on her gorgeous, glowing skin. I love her fun yet subtle purple eye. The look as a whole is so light-hearted. Love, love, love.

Reese Witherspoon - Favorite Lips

I love the classic Old Hollywood vibe Reese had going on. It's simply and classy, but with a splash of unexpected color on the lips to complement her gown. Gorg.

Hailee Steinfeld - Favorite Brows

I love everything about Hailee's look, but please take a moment to adore those brows! I seriously can't get enough.

Emma Stone - Favorite Spring Look

I have an unashamed girl crush on my girl Emma. I reallly wanted her makeup to be outstanding (her makeup is usually on point), but this look is just kinda meh. I like the peachy tones for spring, but there is too much shimmer in her crease for my taste. Maybe if the shadow hadn't been blended so close to the brow bone or even been a matte shade... There is little to no color on her cheeks and  even the lips were a miss for me. I would've gone more nude to not compete with her dress or go all in with a bright, vivid shade of pink to complement the dress. It's okay, though. I still love you Emma!

Giuliana Rancic - Hate It!

I have always loved Giuliana, but her makeup last night was a major miss. I can appreciate the classic look she was going for, but the liner is way too harsh. The false lower lashes are atrocious. And worst of all, her contour makes her look wayyy too thin. I think this look overall makes her appear much older than she is. As much as it pains me to say, Giuliana was the worst makeup look of the night.

What did you guys think of the fashion last night? What was your favorite makeup look? I would love to hear your thoughts!

April Favorites | MakeupByAundi

Be sure to follow me on Instagram @makeupbyaundi for a bonus favorite!

As the end of the months draw near, I always find myself giddy with excitement! Not only do I love sharing my monthly favorites, I love seeing everyone else's favorites. Let me know what your go-to items have been for this month! :)

I have a few new items to share for the month of April, but I also rediscovered some old favorites that I have fallen in love with all over again...

Revlon Photo Ready BB Cream | $9.99 at Target

This has been my go-to in my everyday makeup routine. As the weather warms up, I love the idea that less is more. If I'm being totally honest, there have been several times this month when I've slapped on some moisturizer, thrown on some mascara and called it a day. This is the perfect product for me because it's lightweight, gives light coverage, and has SPF 30. Is this long-wearing? No. Would I wear this for a special occasion? Definitely not. But it's perfect for spring & summer to wear everyday. If you're unfamiliar with BB Creams, most claim to work miracles, but it's essentially your run of the mill tinted moisturizer. This one in particular can get a teeny bit shiny by the end of the day, so if you tend to get oily, you may want to find another one that suits your skin.

Revlon Colorstay Liquid Foundation | $11.99 at Ulta

On the days I need a little more coverage, I have been all about some Revlon Colorstay. I have loved this foundation for years, and it's still one of my all time favorites from the drugstore. It's also great for the warmer months because it gives great coverage (medium to full) with a demi-matte/satin finish without being cakey.

Watch me ramble on about why I love this foundation and other drugstore favorites in my latest video HERE! :)

Maybelline Fit Me Concealer | $6.99 at Ulta

My favorite drugstore concealer is a toss up between this one and Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser, but the Fit Me is my current go-to. It sets so well and gives me little to no creasing in my fine lines around my eyes. I use shade 15 to give me the highlighted look I'm always obsessed with. This concealer is also light and creamy enough to be used to highlight the rest of my face. It's basically everything I look for in a concealer and it's affordable. Love.

The Balm Cosmetics Blush in Down Boy | $21 at The Balm

I ordered this blush and two others from Hautelook... While I love the other two products, this one has been a standout this month. It's the perfect baby pink - my dream shade! The formula is long-wearing but not chalky. The Balm can be a little on the expensive side, but if you can find it on sale (often on Hautelook), snatch up some goodies while you can!

Milani Color Statement Lipstick in Rose Amour | $7.99 at Amazon
(I bought mine at CVS)
Milani Brilliant Shine Lip Gloss in Pink Lady | $5.99 at Walgreens

I must admit that I was hesitant to jump on the Milani bandwagon, although I'm not sure why. This was my first lipstick from their Color Statement line and I am officially obsessed! I regret waiting so long to give Milani a go. The formula is so smooth and creamy and the pigmentation is gorgeous. I cannot wait to try other colors from the line. To make it even more amazing, I have been topping the lipstick with this Brilliant Shine gloss. The gloss has enough pigmentation to wear on its own, but applying it over this color makes it absolutely magical! ;)

Bare Minerals Marvelous Moxie Lipstick in Speak Your Mind | $18 at Ulta

One of the many reasons I love Ulta - samples! This adorable miniature sample was a free gift from one of my Ulta purchases. This is my first experience with any Bare Minerals lipstick, and I may be hooked! This color 'Speak Your Mind' is my perfect shade; it's a gorgeous nudey-pink. My favorite thing about this lippy is the formula. Much like the Milani one, it's formula is so creamy and smooth - it glides on like a dream. I could never choose one lipstick as a favorite, but if I'm being honest, this one would certainly be in the running.

Kenra Platinum Blow-Dry Mist | $22.00 at Ulta

I am the worst at consistency when it comes to hair products. I have never been good about using a heat protectant, but this spray smells sooo good, I always remember to use it! It's a little pricey, but I can actually tell a difference when I use this before blow-drying. I feel like it makes my hair soft and shiny. I used to use the Tresemme spray, but I could never tell a difference in my hair. I have read some reviews and some say it reduces the time it takes to dry their hair, but that hasn't been the case for me. Overall, I am loving this new hair product!

I hope you get the chance to try some of these goodies. If you do, let me know your thoughts! I'm sure you'll love them as much as I do!
