2014 Winter Makeup Trends

I have literally filmed this video twice now, and have not been able to post it for various reasons. I figured if I don't post this now, I never will! I'm taking advantage of our snow day, occasionally looking up from my laptop to admire the winter wonderland outside my window. It may not be a video, but alas, here are a few of the 2014 Winter Makeup Trends! Now obviously, just because these looks are on trend, they may not be for you. But the good news is, these looks can be easily tailored to fit your personal preference.

TREND 1// Matte, "done" skin

Say goodbye to dewy skin, which was popular for many consecutive seasons. The new trend started in the fall of 2013 and could be (and still is) found all over the runway. To achieve this, I used Revlon Colorstay Whipped Creme foundation. Since I have crazy-dry skin, this is as matte as I can go; and yes, I have to Fix + it up! Honestly, this is not a product I wear on the regular in the winter. Dry skin is just not cute. If you are interested in my review on this foundation, click here. I didn't need to powder, but if you find the need, this will definitely enhance the "done" look that you are going for.

In keeping with our full coverage face, I used Hard Candy's Glamoflauge Concealer. This is not the best for undereye concealing, but it is very full coverage. This is amazing at covering blemishes and even tattoos! The best part? It's $6 at Walmart.

TREND 2// No blush

What?! No blush?? This one is admittedly hard for me. Again, this adds to the very finished look of trend 1. If you feel you MUST, you could add a very neutral blush to the apples of the cheeks or a touch of matte bronzer in order to keep your face from looking too flat - but again, that's kinda the point!

TREND 3// Minimal eye makeup// thin black liner

Another big trend is minimal makeup for the eyes. I primed my lids and set it with face powder so my eyes would match the rest of my skin. I used my Maybelline Eye Studio Gel Liner in Blackest Black to give a thin line with an ever-so-slight wing. Bold lashes are always in, so using my Jordana Best Lash Extreme Volumizing Mascara was a must!

TREND 4// Full, defined brows

There is nothing I love more than a full brow. Nothing. But I will warn you, I used several products for my brows. I know it's a little high maintenance, but amazing brows take some effort! I filled in the tail and lower line of my brows with Rimmel's Professional Eyebrow Pencil in Black Brown. I then filled in the front of my brows (avoiding closing off the very inner part) with the same pencil in the color Hazel. Next, I went over the pencil with MAC's shadow in Cross Cultural (a matte brown shadow). Then to keep everything in place, I used ELF's clear brow gel.

TREND 5// Deep, berry lips

I used my favorite lipstick for this winter, Revlon's Black Cherry. This lipstick can be quite intimidating by the looks of it, but it is so versatile! By using your finger or a lip brush, you can achieve a berry, stained look. You can add to the the pigmentation by applying two or three layers. OR, you can use my favorite method: applying it straight from the tube! This way will be the most opaque as far as the color payoff. If you don't want to brave this color, any berry or plum lip product will do!

Let me know if you would like to see another look (maybe even a video tutorial!) with other winter makeup trends. I hope you will give these trends a go!

Talk to you soon.

  1. I just did a review on the Revlon Colorstay Whipped Foundation! I love it! But as you said, not great for every day in the Winter for sure! I'm getting ready to head over to YouTube to watch a couple videos, but wanted to stop by and check out the blog first!
